Game Notes:

Offense was once again the winning factor as the Johnson County Trojans traveled to Irwinton and defeated the Wilkinson County Warriors 40-33 on Friday night. The Trojans capped off a back and forth game by scoring three touchdowns in the 4th quarter to squeeze out a 7 point victory.

Wilkinson County scored first and took a 6 point lead at the half at 20-14 after three touchdowns for the Warriors. The Trojans answered though with two touchdowns on their own, a 48 yard scamper by Malik Pierce (#13, SR) and a 5 yard run by Bran Rawlings (#9, JR).

The Trojans offense finally came alive late in the third, as the Trojans took the lead on a Brooks Norton (#8, JR) to Thomas Thornton (#22, SR) pass for 16 yards and a Jalen Johnson (#6, JR) 21 yard run to go up 27-20. However, the Trojans would fumble and Wilkinson County would tie it up at 27-27 midway through the 4th. However, Johnson County would respond with a Pierce TD run of 67 yards and a Ran Norris (#10, JR) scoring run of 22 yards to extend the lead. Wilkinson County would score late but they could not make the conversion or recover the onside kick and the game was sealed as a JOCO victory.

Johnson County finished with 440 total yards, which included 406 rushing yards. Player of the game Malik Pierce led all players in a Nick Chubb-esque performance with 219 yards on 15 carries and 2 touchdowns. Norris and Johnson both broke the 50 yard rush threshold, and those two alongside Rawlings each had a score a piece. Thornton led the Trojans with receiving yards and brought in one touchdown.

With the win, JOCO improves to 4-0 on the season, and there should be a little bump in the power ratings. The Trojans will continue its road trip and will take on the Savannah Country Day Hornets next week in Savannah in a region crossover game, before returning home after a bye week to continue subregion play September 30 against Wheeler. As always, the games will be broadcasted on USTREAM.
